News Flash
'Tribute to Buddy Holly' is a track I'm currently recording at Compact Sound Studio in Stubbington, with my producer Ian Templeton The track will be released by Shine4U Records in September, to celebrate the birth of my hero, Buddy Holly (7th September 1936).
The song was originally recorded in 1961 by Mike Berry. It was banned by the BBC for being too 'morbid' because it was about the death of 1950s Rock and Roll legend, Buddy Holly who sadly died in a plane crash in 1959.
Interesting fact: The bass guitarist on the track was a young Chad Hodges (who later found fame with the duo Chas & Dave (official)
The track was produced by the legendary Joe Meek, who produced many hits in the 1960s.
One of which was the groundbreaking track 'Telstar', a number one in 1962.
'Telstar' is another track currently being recorded by myself, Richard 'Ricky' Palmer at Compact sound Studio. This track will be released in October, to mark the anniversary of the original version, by The Tornados, being at number one in the Pop charts.
Sad note:
Joe meek, the producer of the recording session for the original version of 'Tribute to Buddy Holly', claimed to have contact with Buddy Holly's spirit which, he claimed, helped him write songs. Meek would later end up committing a murder–suicide on the 1967 anniversary of Holly's death.
